TAO

TAOとは、CD-Rへの書き込み方法の一つ。「トラック」という単位でデータを書き込み、一度書き込みを行なった後に追記ができる方式。　これに対し、ディスク全体に一度にまとめてデータを書き込む方式を「DAO」(ディスクアットワンス)、データをトラックに分割せずにセッション単位で書き込みを行なう方式を「SAO」(セッションアットワンス)という。　TAOによる書き込みでは、複数のトラックが連なったデータ本体の前後に、記録開始を意味する「リードイン」、記録終了を意味する「リードアウト」という領域を設定する。リードインからリードアウトまでの一まとまりの領域を「セッション」と呼ぶ。一つのセッションには最大99個のトラックを記録することができる。　トラックとトラックの間には「リンクブロック」という継ぎ目ができる。音楽CDではリンクブロックはノイズ発生の原因となるため、DAOで作成する方が良いとされる。　1枚のCDに複数のセッションを設定することもでき、複数セッションで構成されるCD-Rをマルチセッション形式と呼ぶ。古いCD-ROMドライブやオーディオ機器にはマルチセッションに対応していないものがあり、そのような機器では最初のセッションしか読み出すことができない。
